Irish Wedding Band

Couples are always looking to make their wedding memorable, entertaining, and unique. A popular new trend is Irish themed weddings. In these weddings the more traditional pop and "Canon in D" type musical arrangements are replaced with some of the most beautiful Celtic music ever written.

Pipers may play for guests as they enter the ceremony. Harpists and singers may perform in the Irish language, and our trio can play instrumental arrangements of all the Celtic classics.

And then, for a cocktail hour or reception, entertain your guests with a high energy Irish dance party in 3rd class (from the movie Titanic) - dancing on tables optional! Or even better, we can provide a dance caller to help everyone quickly learn how to dance to the music.

String Theory is quite unique in the D/FW area in that they are the only band that can play a more formal prelude and cerimony with classical pieces and orchestral arrangements of popular celtic songs and traditional wedding classics,  and then follow it up with an upbeat, authentic toe tapping Irish dance party for a cocktail hour or reception. Perfect for any Irish themed wedding, or someone wanting an Irish wedding band and dance.

Look at the sample wedding ideas below and give us a call to help design an Irish wedding that everyone will remember fondly for years to come. And keep in mind, String Theory is more that happy to play more traditional wedding repertoire as well, or instrumental arrangements of any songs off the radio.

Wedding Music Options

Standard Ceremony Performance

For our typical wedding performance, the String Theory trio will perform. This includes our guitar player, fiddle player and cello player. They are an instrumental band and can play classical pieces, orchestral arrangements of Celtic or pop music, and up beat authentic Irish dance music. The band is happy to learn new music that you would like played.
Our most common performance is playing the prelude to the ceremony for 30 minutes while guests are being seated, playing the processional/recessional during the ceremony, followed by a cocktail hour performance.
String Theory is quite unique in the metroplex as the only band with authentic Irish folk music roots that is also trained by the most rigorous classical music schools. Most weddings take full advantage of their breadth of skills for a wonderful blend of upbeat folk music, timeless classical pieces, and string arrangements of beautiful Celtic and popular songs.

    Standard Reception Performance

For your reception, the full 5 piece String Theory band will perform. We can play a variety of upbeat Celtic music to get everyone on their feet. We would strongly recommend having an organized dance caller for any dancing that goes on. While most people love Celtic music, some wonder how to best dance to it. We reccomend bringing in a dance caller who will lead the entire reception in learning the simple dances that go with the music, and make sure everyone is on the dance floor. Barn dancing, or contra dancing is a fantastic way to ensure everyone has fun.  Check out the video to the right for an example!

Example of barn and contra dancing to our music.

    Performer Options

    • Dance Caller -A caller will lead the reception in a large barn type dance. They will teach the easy to learn dance moves and get everyone on the dance floor. Participating in this type of dancing has been frequently called the most fun guests have ever had at a wedding.
    • Piper - We can bring in a Highland Piper who can greet your guests, or play music for the ceremony. We also have an Irish piper (the Uilleann Pipes) available. The Irish pipes are a much more soulful and musical version of the Scottish pipes. This is the perfect way to give a real authentic Irish sound to a ceremony.
    • Vocalists/Harpist - We have several different singer/harp players we can bring in. They can sing for the prelude, as part of the ceremony, or cocktail hour. They all sing traditional wedding songs as well as Celtic songs in English and the Irish language. Vocalists are the way to really connect with your guests on a personal level.
    • Irish Pub Sing Alongs - We are happy to bring an Irish singer who can perform many of the traditional pub songs. Song sheets provided, and guests are free to sing along.

    Event Options

    • Recording - We are happy to record the ceremony and music performance for you on a thumb drive free of charge.
    • Wedding CD - We can create a CD of the music we play at the wedding. This is multitrack recorded, mixed and mastered and will be of a high production quality. CDs can be purchased through Amazon in low volumes starting at 1 CD with CD art from your ceremony, or as a free digital download for your guests. Cost is $300 plus any publishing fees from iTunes or Amazon.
    • Wireless Mics - We have wireless microphones that the officiant and groom can use to amplify the sound of the ceremony. There is a $100 rental for these for the day.
